Thank you Marcus, I have made those sentiments known to the NY ISO, the Public Service Commission and the City's Energy Office all of whom I work very closely as Chair of the Cooperative Colaition to Prevent Blackouts.

By the way hope you seen my earlier today's Advisory announcing the cancellation of the Emergency for today. According NYISO ConEd and other suppliers were able to effect repairs and replace burnt out feeder cables earlier this morning so the ISO cancelled the Curtailment Event.

Regards
JRM

Hi Jordi,

Of course, we want to be environmentally responsible always, not just in this kind of overload situation.

But I share the concern raised by another member of our community about the blatant waste of A/C in midtown (where I work). Open doors from many, many retailers blowing frigid air useless into the street. It's a scandal that the City must address or it is truly hypocritical to ask disadvantaged neighborhoods to cut back.

Thanks,
Marcus Edward

To All:

CB9M has received advised from the Cooperative Coalition to Prevent Blackouts (CCPB) to the fact that the NYS Independent System Operator (ISO) has called an Emergency Electricity Curtailement Event for TOMORROW 20 July 2006 from 12:00am to 7:00pm.

Please reduce electric consumption in the building's public spaces, apartments, commercial spaces and raise the temperature thermostat of your air conditioners, refrigerators and turn-off all non-essentials.

Please encourage your neighbors to do the same.

We are sure that you have seen all the electric power problems being reported on the news not only about New York City but the tri-state area as well, so this is a very serious current situation and jointly our individual efforts will help alleviate the problem and avoid possible major blackout(s) in New York City and elsewhere.

Since yesterday I have been advising my District of the Emergency Curtailment Event called by NYISO. There were already partial blackouts in West 156th Street since last night and most of today and also the 1-2-3 subway line had a power outage from around 9:45am to around 2pm.

Not to mention the possibility of transmission lines failure indicated by Kelliher to Congress. See attachement.

Maybe some of the policies proposed by the Cooperative Coalition to Prevent Blackouts deserve better consideration by NYSERDA, et al.

Regards

Jord

The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) has extended the Curtailment Event until 10:00 PM.

Try to curtail as much as possible and encourage others to do same.

WE turn off appliances but every chain store and jeans boutique in Midtown, So-Ho and eastside and westside has its front doors wide open and blasts air conditioning out onto the sidewalk with impunity!I am tired of paying the price in blackouts and brownouts for the wastefulness of rich multi-national corporations like Victoria's Secret & Radio Shack. It's time for NYC to get a serious energy conservation policy (besides telling the lowest income residents they can't run the fan!).
