Stand with the people of Venezuela!

Nellie

I most certainly stand with and support the rightful aspirations of the people of Venezuela and I am an admirer of Simon Bolivar and his ideals of a unified Iberian America free and democratic where all have equal opportunity but Chavez's so-called Bolvarian movement is something that, if alive, Simon Bolivar would reject, oppose and fight against, and as a true Bolivarian, so do I.

Regards

The Bush Administration and their allies have stepped up the threats against the people of Venezuela. Now is a critical time to turn out in support of Venezuela, to counter the lies of the Bush Admnistration and extremists like Pat Robertson, and to take a stand against U.S. intervention.

From Peter Coyote:

It is ironic that the American government tried to overthrow a democratically elected President of another country whose "voter approval numbers" are nearly double that of our own President. Yet irony, while a suitable sentiment for drawing rooms and debate, does not begin to describe the trail of horrors committed across Latin America by my government in Chile, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Uruguay, and currently in Bolivia where our "anti-drug" efforts have melded seamlessly with support of the armed forces there to wipe out the 'guerrillas'----despite the fact that the armed forces are notorious drug-traffickers. I do not want such subversion and murder done in my name and with my tax dollars and I'm sure there are many others who feel the same way. It is time for America to grow up, respect the sovereignty of foreign governments with which we may disagree, and engage them on the fields of diplomacy and public opinion. There may be much we might learn from Hugo Chavez, but he will certainly learn nothing from us until we stop being the bully-on-the-block, support his legitimacy (regardless of what our government thinks of his policies), and engage him diplomatically. It is time to make this point clear to our elected officials, one way or another.

From James Petras:

The Night in Solidarity with Bolivarian Venezuela sends a message to all Americans that social welfare, self-determination, racial justice and popular power embedded in the policies of President Chavez are a viable alternative to imperialism and neo-liberalism. President Chavez and the Venezuelan people have defeated Washington sponsored coups, bosses lockouts, propaganda wars and covert electoral subversion. They have demonstrated that an organized and class-conscious people can defeat the Two Party empire. Venezuelan solidarity with the people of North and South America has helped us by weakening the US empire. On November 8, we reciprocate that solidarity, by making it our task to salute President Chavez and the Venezuelan people and by pledging to deepen the struggle to defeat imperialism and build a new independent political movement which embraces the Bolivarian principles of social justice, democracy and socialism in the quest for a new United States of the Americas!

From Marcia Campos:

The event Night of Solidarity with Venezuela in the U.S.A. is taking place at an important moment in the life of that nation and its people.

President Hugo Chavez once again denounced the Pentagons preparation for an invasion of Venezuela, which is practiced together with some other NATO countries.

The recent exercise known as Plan Balboa, which simulated land, sea and air operations and was carried out under the command at a base in Spain, has the objective of planning an invasion of western Venezuela through Panama and Colombia.

Once more the U.S. government and the Pentagon warmongers are trying to deliver a new blow to Venezuela and to remove President Chavez. Once again they will be defeated by the Venezuelan people!

Venezuela is a country that has one of the largest worldwide reserves of oil, whose economy is growing at the rate of 17 percent a year and which has established goals of development for its nation that are being exceeded every day.

The enthusiastic and massive participation of Venezuelan women in the Misiones (Missions) Barrio Adentro, in the Mision Sucre, amongst others, has made it possible to establish a broad organization of women in Venezuelan society.

With the Night of Solidarity, we will pay homage to the women who love peace, sovereignty, equality and fraternity, to the women and the people of Venezuela for their untiring fight for a Venezuela that serves the interests of all Venezuelans.

From James D. Cockcroft:

President Hugo Chvez has offered ABC News secret documents detailing the Bush administrations plans to invade Venezuela. There are also plans to assassinate Chvez. We must accelerate the offensive in defense of Bolivarian Venezuelas participatory democracy (11 elections) in order to defeat these plans to grab Venezuelan oil Iraq-style. The place to start is Town Hall the night of November 8. Be there!

Asista!

From August Nimtz:

This is a crucial moment for defenders of what is sometimes called the Bolivarian process underway in Venezuela. It is clearly at odds with all that Washington represents and defends and for that reason it is only a matter of time before the agents of the U.S. ruling class will once again attemptas they did in April 2002to end that process through overt actions. The government of Hugo Chavez, along with its ally in Havana, is already taking steps to defend itself politically through such initiatives as the recently held World Youth Festival and PetroCaribe. The New York meeting provides us with an opportunity to launch a national solidarity movement that can bring together the disparate local efforts in order to make for a much more effective opposition to what Washington will inevitably have to do.

From Howard Zinn:

I wish I could be with you at the "Night in Solidarity wi th Bolivarian Venezuela", but I do want to tell you how strongly I support the exciting developments in Venezuela which promise a new era of economic justice and political freedom. I especially appreciate Venezuela's refusal to become subservient to the United States, and its insistence on its own independent path towards an egalitarian society. Sincerely, Howard Zinn

From Fr. Luis Barrios:

As a religious leader, I believe that in this historical moment, coming to the Town Hall solidarity with Venezuela is a manifestation of our radical spirituality obligation. The Bolivarian Revolution is becoming more and more the foundation where the peace with justice of God in under construction because they do not hypothesize about God. With each one of the social, political and economic project that this revolution is organizing and implementing they are doing what the Church is not doing; practicing God. They are also giving continuation to the Bolivars project for the Americas which at this moment also include the decolonization and independence of my country Puerto Rico, the liberation and freedom of Haiti and the protection of the socialist revolution in Cuba. God bless the Bolivarian Revolution ands its prophet Hugo Chavez.
