A New York City Council investigation conducted between January and April 2007
found that nearly half of nanny agencies surveyed were subjects to violations
that included operation without license or failure to include their license
number on print advertisements, charge of improper fees to parents and/or nannies,
not performing the proper background and reference checks and in some cases
passing over the laws designated to protect domestic workers. The City Council
also provided tips for concerned parents at
