Hello All,

Here's an update on some of the recent activities of the Committee on Technology in Government of the New York City Council:

Making NYCMap (GIS) Data Publicly Available: On January 28, 2005, the Committee held a hearing about the lack of public access to the data in the NYCMap, the City's official base map.

At the hearing, we heard from a number of GIS experts from the private and nonprofit sectors.

The Committee will be working with the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications (DoITT) to increase public access to data in the NYCMap.

Enhancing and Increasing Government-Related Programming on NYC-TV: On February 14, 2005, the Committee held a hearing entitled Oversight: Improving Participatory Democracy Through Municipal Cable Television. At the hearing, we discussed with DoITT and various experts in TV production and interactive media on how to improve government-related programming on NYC-TV, including Council 51, the NYC-TV program that airs City Council hearings.
