Sierra Club Activist:

Things are heating up here in Albany as the legislature moves forward
with the budget. After over two years, we may have a chance in the
next few weeks to protect New York's threatened wetlands, but we need
your help. Your calls and letters have helped convince the Assembly to
pass wetlands protection and the Governor to include protections in his
budget. Unfortunately, the State Senate just introduced a budget bill
that removes the Governor's proposed wetlands protection.

Our communities rely on wetlands to maintain clean water, prevent
flooding and provide critical habitat for wildlife, yet we have the
weakest state law in the Northeast. Wetlands continued to be
destroyed, we can't wait - the Senate needs to make sure that this
year's budget protects wetlands. Please call Majority Leader Bruno and
your State Senator and express your disappointment that the Senate has
removed the Governor's proposed wetlands protection from their budget
bill (contact info and talking points below). If the Senate feels
enough public pressure they may agree in budget negotiations to protect
wetlands.
